The PATHFOOD Masterclass for Research Managers

REDINN, in partnership with the PATHFOOD Consortium, is proud to host the PATHFOOD Masterclass for Research Managers: How and Why to Become a Professional Research Manager.

This event will take place on 7 November 2025 as part of the PATHFOOD General Assembly. The session is designed for last-year PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career research managers looking to professionalize their skills and advance their careers.

The masterclass will be held in a hybrid format, available to participants on-site at the Sala de Juntes, Faculty of Science, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and online.

Programme Overview (10:00–12:00)

The session features two expert-led masterclasses:

10:00–11:00 | Masterclass on EU Proposal Writing Techniques

  • Speaker: Sebastian Puculek (Lund University)
  • An experienced Horizon Europe project coordinator and evaluator, Sebastian will provide practical guidance on developing successful proposals. This session will cover identifying the right call, structuring concepts, defining impact pathways, and demystifying evaluator expectations using real examples from projects like FARMWISE.

11:00–12:00 | Masterclass on Research Management and Career Development

  • Speaker: Dr Leonardo Piccinetti ( REDINN)
  • Our CEO, Leonardo Piccinetti, will draw on his 20+ years in EU research and innovation to explore professionalisation pathways in research management. This session will cover transferable skills for PhDs, the Excellence–Impact–Implementation (EII) framework, an introduction to the European Certificate in Research Management (EARMA), and a 3-month personal roadmap for professional growth.

Who Should Attend?

This event is ideal for PhD candidates, postdocs, and junior research managers who want to strengthen their skills in proposal writing, project leadership, and international funding.

Participants will gain:

  • A practical understanding of how to write competitive EU proposals.
  • Knowledge of research management career trajectories in Europe.
  • Insight into project leadership, risk management, and communication strategies.
  • A personalised roadmap for transitioning into research management.
